Impact on the European market: 

Bt11 was involved in a major contamination scandal in 2005 when it was found that Bt11 seed in the US was contamined with another Bt event called Bt10. During several years, contaminated Bt11 maize was planted on 15.000 ha in the USA and was used in several field trials in Europe and elsewhere (Macilwain 2005).
